ashWedASH WEDNESDAY – MARCH 5
Ash Wednesday is the first day of the observance of the forty days of Lent. There will be three Masses: 11am (Eng.), 7pm (Pol.) and 8pm (Cro.). During Lent, Catholics age 14 and older must not eat meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent. Ash Wednesday is also a day of fasting – all Catholics ages 18 to 59 may eat only one full meal and two smaller meals (which combined don’t equal a full meal).
Lent, the liturgical season before Easter, occurs in the spring when new life appears after the death of winter. Easter takes place the first Sunday after the first full moon after the equinox, which means Easter floats every calendar year (as the Jewish Passover does). Lent is a more penitential time than Advent, but both seasons prepare the faithful for a big feast. Catholics are asked to do modest mortifications and acts of penance during Lent for the purification of the body and soul. Lent is a time of confession, fasting, abstinence, more prayer, more Bible and spiritual reading, and more spiritual and corporal works of mercy. It culminates at Easter when Christ rose triumphant from the dead.

ARCHBISHOP’S CATHOLIC APPEAL 2014
Most past contributors to the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal already received a mailing from Archbishop Sample. The Appeal provides funds to support essential parish-based ministries that would find it difficult, if not impossible, to operate solely on parish funds. This year’s goal for St. Stanislaus is $5,924.

THANKS TO ZB CONSTRUCTION & PLUMBING
Our parishioners, Zbigniew i Krzysztof Pomykała from ZB Construction, have completed a new classroom and storage room under the church.  We would like to express our gratitude for their cooperation and excellent work. May God bless them with many new projects in the future.

REST IN PEACE
In your prayers, please remember our parishioner, Jeanette (Slowikowski) Lattanzi, who entered Eternal Life on February 7th. She was married in St. Stanislaus Church and was a long-time member of the St. Stanislaus Arts & Crafts Group.  Jeanette was very proud of her nine children and excelled in her natural ability of making a happy
family home. She was passionate about caring for all people, especially children, which took her to the Waverly Children’s Home where she worked for eight years providing love and assistance to those in need.  Our condolences are offered to her family and friends. In this time of sadness, may they know God’s consolation.
