PLANS FOR REPLACEMENT OF STATIONS
OF THE CROSS IN THE CHURCH
The current Stations of the Cross are pictures attached to cardboard. We would like to replace these with real paintings. The first step will be for an artist to paint one Station for people to see and install it using the same frame. Then we will evaluate this and make a decision of going forward with the entire project. Price of one painting will be $2,000. If someone would like to be a sponsor of one of the Stations of the Cross, please contact Fr. Piotr. We already have three potential sponsors.
ARCHBISHOP’S CATHOLIC APPEAL 2019
The weekend for this year’s Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal has been pushed back one week
to the weekend of February 23rd & 24th. Everyone who has participated in the past in this appeal should receive materials from the Archdiocese in the mail. There will also be envelopes available in the back of the church.
WORLD DAY OF THE SICK
The World Day of the Sick is a feast day of the Roman Catholic Church which was instituted in 1992 by Pope John Paul II. It is celebrated every year on the commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes, as “a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one’s suffering”. This year marks the 140th anniversary of the death of Bernardette Soubirous
(who died in 1879). Bernardette’s body is incorrupt and rests in a crystal coffin in the Nevers monastery where it is available to pilgrims and tourists.
POPE BENEDICT XVI RESIGNATION
On February 11, 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation. Six years have
passed since the announcement of the first papal resignation for reasons of health and old age. After eight years as Pope, Benedict XVI announced his intention to resign from the Petrine ministry at the end of February, because he no longer felt able, physically and spiritually, to carry the weight of that ministry – one that has changed greatly over the past
century in the way it is exercised: in terms of celebrations, commitments, and international journeys.~
