WALKING PILGRIMAGE TO GROTTO
On Saturday, August 17 after the 8 am Mass there will be a walking pilgrimage to the Grotto starting at 9 am. Prayers at the Grotto at the Black Madonna Shrine will be at noon. Please bring lunch and we will eat together at the Grotto.

Pilgrimages in 2014
Pilgrimage to Rome for teenagers and parents will be February 13-20. Pilgrimage to Lourdes for all parishioners will be May 22-29. More details to come

According to Archbishop Alexander Sample:
“In the Archdiocese of Portland, Catholic clergy must request the permission of the Archbishop whenever they witness a marriage outside a church, chapel or oratory, even when one party is not baptized.”
Whenever a Catholic marries another Catholic the ceremony should take place in a Catholic Church; usually in the parish Church of one of the parties. When a Catholic marries any other baptized Christian, the ceremony should take place either in a Catholic church or in another Christian church or chapel. I know that there are occasions when there are family sensitivities that we want to respect and that would require a particular pastoral approach. These weddings might be celebrated in a nondenominational church or chapel or other sacred place. Outdoor weddings, no matter how beautiful the setting, are rarely permitted

Former Popes John Paul II and John XXIII to be Canonized
Pope Francis has approved the cause for canonization of two previous Popes, Blessed John Paul II and Blessed John XXIII.
Bl. John XXIII is known for his encyclical, “Pacem in Terris,” and for calling the historic Second Vatican Council.
Bl. John Paul II became famous throughout the world during his 27-year papacy for his charismatic nature, his love of youth and world travels, along with his role in the fall of communism in Europe.
The date for the canonizations has not yet been determined but it is believed they will occur by the end of the year.
