25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE POLISH STEWARDSHIP OF ST. MARGARET OF SCOTLAND IN SEATTLE
Although St. Margaret of Scotland in Seattle has a much longer history, the parish eventually became a Polish parish 25 years ago. On Sunday, November 19th the Polish community in Seattle will be celebrating this important anniversary. In the mid 1980s, Fr. Mieczysław Szwej, SCh started coming from Tacoma every Sunday to celebrate Mass for the Polish people in Seattle. In 1992, Fr. Józef Calik, SCh was appointed the first parish priest of the Polish community at the church of St. Margaret in Seattle. He renovated the church, which was in very bad condition and the rectory. He installed a chapel dedicated to the Mother of God in gratitude for receiving the church for Poles. In the years 1993-94, Fr. Piotr Dzikowski, SCh assisted the pastor in the parish. In 2004, Fr. Stanisław Michałek, SCh became pastor for the American and Polish communities in the parish. During his ministry, a memorial for the Katyn tragedy of Poles in Russia, a statue of St. John Paul, and a museum of St. John Paul II were created in the parish. At present, the Polish priest in Seattle is Fr. Andrzej Galant, SCh.
