Pope Francis Pilgrimage To Holy Land
Pope Francis will visit Jordan, the State of Palestine,and Israel. The main purpose of his forthcomingpilgrimage to the Holy Land from May 24th to 26this to commemorate the historic meeting betweenPope Paul VI and the head of the OrthodoxChurch of the time, Patriarch Athenagoras I ofConstantinople. In January of 1964, Pope Paul VI traveled to the HolyLand. He met with the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople on the Mount of Olives on January 5.

POPE PAUL VI TO BE BEATIFIED OCTOBER 19, 2014
Pope Francis has approved the promulgation ofthe decree for the cause of beatification of his predecessor Pope Paul VI. The beatification ceremony will take place October 19, 2014, at the conclusion of the III Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the family.

We welcome Fr. Tadeusz Baniowski, whowill be in Portland from May 19-29. He willsubstitute for Fr. Peter, who will be taking agroup on a pilgrimage to Lourdes during thattime. We wish that Fr. Baniowski has a pleasant stay in Portland and in our parish.

33RD ANNIVERSARY OF ST. JOHN PAUL II ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT
The first attempted assassination of St. John PaulII took place on Wednesday, May 13, 1981 in St.Peter’s Square at Vatican City. The Pope was shotand wounded by Mehmet Ali Agča while he wasentering the square. The Pope was struck four times,and suffered severe blood loss. Agča was apprehended immediately, and later sentenced to lifein prison by an Italian court.

ST. JOHN PAUL THE GREAT 94TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY
Karol Józef Wojtyła was born on May 18, 1920 in Wadowice in Poland. He was the youngest of threechildren born to Karol Wojtyła and EmiliaKaczorowska. His elder sister Olga died before his birth, but he was close to his brother Edmund, nicknamed Mundek, who was 13 years his senior.Edmund’s work as a physician eventually led to hisdeath from scarlet fever, a loss which affectedWojtyła deeply.On July 4, 1958 Pope Pius XII appointed him as theAuxiliary Bishop of Kraków. In October 1962,Wojtyła took part in the Second Vatican Council(1962-1965). Pope Paul VI appointed him Archbishop of Kraków on January 13, 1964 and announced Archbishop Karol Wojtyła’s promotion to the Sacred College of Cardinals on June 26, 1967.

MAJÓWKA – DEVOTION TO BLESSED MARY
Saturday, May 31 at 5PM in the Grotto We would like to invite all parishioners for our May devotions to Blessed Mary in the Grotto near the shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa. At 5pm we will start to sing the Litany of Loretto and Polish Marian songs.
