PASCHAL CANDLE
The Paschal Candle is the large candle blessed at the service on Holy Saturday. Inserted into thecandle, in the form of a cross, are five grains, orparticles, of incense. The candle should be ofbeeswax for the greater part, about 75 percent oraccording to the percentage determined by theOrdinary. The paschal candle is to be lighted atthe Mass or the parochial Mass and at vespers onEaster Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday; onSaturday after Easter and on all Sundays, untilthe Gospel of the Mass on Ascension Day. It mayalso be lighted on the major feasts of the Easter time. The paschal candle is used at the ceremony ofblessing baptismal water when it, or part of it, isimmersed in the water. The paschal candle isremoved from its prominent place in the sanctuary, tobe placed near the baptismal font at the recessionalof the last Mass of Pentecost. It is used to light the candles of the newly baptized; it may be used at funerals, near the casket, in place of lighted candles.
